The Department of Transportation Engineering was established in 1995, which is an important development direction in the construction of a high-level university of Shanghai University of Science and Technology. The China-Canada Collaborative Transportation Laboratory was founded in 2002 and was featured in SciVal Spotlight as “the most successful cooperation initiative between the Chinese and Canadian governments” in 2017. It was acknowledged as a high-caliber local university innovation team in Shanghai in 2018. The department has more than 10 national and provincial talent titles such as National Science Fund for Excellent Youth Scholar, Shanghai Oriental Scholars, Dawn Program of Shanghai Education Commission, Shanghai Young Top-notch Talent Program, Shanghai Rising-Star Program, Shanghai Pujiang Talent Program, Shanghai Yangfan Program, etc. More than 10 strategic cooperation agreements were signed with domestic leading companies in the industry, and the employment rate of postgraduates has continuously maintained 100% for many years.

Educational Objectives

With the background of theoretical innovation and practical application of engineering, the department faculty members conduct scientific research in the fields of transportation planning and management, transportation information and control engineering, transportation infrastructure engineering, intelligent transportation system, transportation safety and environment based on advanced technologies. The department will closely link with the development strategy of the transportation industry, combine the idea of new engineering, combine system science, management science and engineering, and computer science with transportation system engineering, and cultivate transportation engineers with the ability of soft and hard cross-fertilization.
